- 2011 Contest Winners
OFFICIAL RULES
OBJECTIVE:
Create a two minute video about what you are doing to address a global issue that matters to you.
ELIGIBILITY:
- This contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12 (or international equivalent). You must be enrolled in a high school, secondary school or home school equivalent. If you are under 18, you will need the consent of a parent or guardian to participate in this contest.
- This contest is being hosted on Vimeo.com. According to Vimeo's Terms & Conditions, you must be at least 15 years old to use Vimeo's services. If you are under 15, please have a parent or guardian register for their own account on Vimeo and post your video for you. - Only individuals may submit videos. You may collaborate with other students to make your video, but you must designate one person to be the primary contact on the online entry form.
- Only one (1) entry per individual.
CONTEST DATES:
The contest begins on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 and ends on Friday, December 17, 2010. Entries will not be accepted before this period. All entries must be received by 11:59pm EST on December 17, 2010 to be eligible. The winners will be announced on our website on January 31, 2011, and will be notified by e-mail.
The Choices Program reserves the right to cancel or alter the dates of this contest at any time.
PRIZES:
THREE (3) winning videos will be chosen from the submissions. Each winner will receive a Flip Ultra™ video camera.
All applicable federal, state and local taxes assessed against the prizes are the responsibility of the prize winners and not Brown University or the Choices Program. One (1) prize per winning entry.
If at the sole discretion of the Choices Program there are no videos that comply with the Official Rules or meet the objectives of the Choices Program video competition, no prizes will be awarded.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
The videos will be judged by the Choices Program and will take into account:
- Content: Does it meet the objective of the contest?
- Creativity: Is the message communicated in a creative way?
- Effectiveness: Is the information in the video communicated clearly? Is it informative and compelling?
- Execution: What is the overall quality of the video?
VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
- Videos must not be longer than 2 minutes
- Videos must be in English or subtitled in English.
- Acceptable formats
- The videos may not include profanity, violence, defamatory statements, and must not invade the privacy rights of any person or entity.
- No copyrighted material may be used in submitted video entries. By submitting a video, the entrant confirms that any person represented in the video has signed a Release & Consent form, and that any material used in the video that is not original or not within the public domain has been used in accordance with any and all licensing terms or with the written permission of the creator.
HOW TO ENTER:
(No purchase necessary)
- Sign up for a free Vimeo Basic account at http://vimeo.com/join
- Go to the contest group page - http://vimeo.com/groups/bethechange2 - and click "Join this group". Under the "Videos" tab, click "Upload video to group". Choose the file to upload. You must include a title for your video. Click "Save changes" once you are done.
- Complete and submit the online Entry and Release Form. Videos without an entry from will not be accepted and will not appear on the Vimeo group page.
TERMS & CONDITIONS:
- The Choices Program reserves the right to disqualify any submission deemed inappropriate or non-compliant with official contest rules.
- The contest is being hosted on Vimeo – please familiarize yourself with and abide by their terms and rules of conduct.
- The Choices Program/Brown University is not responsible for content on Vimeo or your actions as a Vimeo user. Please be respectful!
WARRANTIES AND REPRESENTATIONS
By submitting a video for consideration, the entrant warrants and represents that s/he (i) has obtained the written consent of each person in the video to record by video, digital and/or audio means and use his/her image, voice, likeness, and statements in the video and to grant to Brown University, including its Choices Program, the right to own, use, distribute, display the video, including his/her image, voice, likeness, statements, and performance or take any other action that Brown University, in its sole discretion, desires to take with respect to the video; (ii) has submitted an original video, is the sole creator of said video and the content therein, (iii) owns all right, title and interest in the video, the recordings, and the performance contained in the video, and (iv) has not violated or infringed upon the copyright, intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other proprietary, moral or legal rights of any person, or entity.
GRANT OF RIGHTS TO BROWN BY ENTRANT
The entrant irrevocably grants to Brown University, its legal representatives, agents, licensees and assigns for its educational/non-commercial purposes an exclusive, royalty free, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, store, exhibit, modify, edit, and otherwise use, reuse or authorize the use of the video or any portion thereof, including the entrants name, address, image, voice likeness, biographical information and statements, by any media including by broadcast over television, radio, cable, internet or any other electronic media, now in existence or later developed for any purpose without limitations, or additional review by, compensation to or approval of the entrant. The entrant hereby acknowledge that if his/her video is selected as one of the winning videos, he/she will assign all of his/her proprietary, intellectual property and other rights to Brown University and will have no further rights or interest in the video and will not derive any benefits therefrom.
INDEMNIFICATION BY ENTRANT
The entrant agrees to release, save harmless, indemnify and forever discharge Brown University, including the Corporation, its Trustees, faculty, employees, staff, licensees an other agents from and against any and all liability and responsibility for any claim or cause of action of entrant or any third party on account of any damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorney's fees) or any other claim or liability (including but not limited to those for libel, slander, defamation, copyright and/or trademark or other intellectual property and/or proprietary rights, and invasion of privacy) or any sort arising from entrant’s participation in the contest and/or appearance in the video and or its use or distribution.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Brown University assumes no liability or responsibility for or resulting from (i) any entrant's participation in or attempt to participate in the contest or for his/her inability to obtain or provide an information in connection with his/her participation in the contest, (ii) technical problems or technical malfunctions arising in connection with any occurrence/s which may affect the contest process including but not limited to hardware or software errors; faulty communication problems; data transmission; email transmission; inaccessibility of the Web site in whole or in part for any reason; unauthorized intervention of the contest process, including but not limited to tampering, theft, virus, bugs or worms.
