China on the World Stage

The Choices Program and the Five College Center for East Asian Studies are offering an afternoon teacher seminar focused on teaching about issues in China today. Topics addressed will include Taiwan, Tibet, and U.S.-China relations.

Participating teachers will hear from Andrew Erickson, Assistant Professor of Strategic Studies, Strategic Research Department, U.S. Naval War College.

Working collaboratively, teachers will also have an opportunity to experience teaching resources developed by the Choices Program and to share curriculum ideas with other dedicated and innovative teachers. All participants will receive a copy of China on the World Stage; Weighing the U.S. Response (2008).

The program will take place at Brown University’s Watson Institute of International Studies.

Scholar Presentation: Taiwan, Tibet and U.S-China Relations

Andrew Erickson is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Studies within the Strategic Research Department of the U.S. Naval War College. He earned his PhD in 2006 at Princeton University where he wrote his dissertation on Chinese aerospace development. He has worked for Science Applications International Corporation (as a Chinese translator), as well as at the U.S. embassy in Beijing and the American consulate in Hong Kong. His publications include contributions to Comparative Strategy, to the Naval War College Review and the U.S. Naval War College’s Newport Papers.

This program is funded in part by a Freeman Foundation grant to the Five College Center for East Asian Studies. Additional support is provided by the Choices Program.

Registration is free, but a refundable check for $20 is required to hold your space.
