Overview

With North Korea's latest nuclear test and heightened tensions along the South Korean border, the eyes of the world are on the Korean Peninsula. In the curriculum Conflict on the Korean Peninsula: North Korea and the Nuclear Threat students explore the history of the conflict between North and South Korea and the development of North Korea's nuclear program. With this historical understanding, students consider the issues surrounding the international response to the North Korean nuclear threat.

Lessons

• The first lesson has students step into the shoes of delegates to the six-party talks to consider a variety of perspectives on this issue.
• The second lesson asks students to consider four different options for U.S. policy towards North Korea. Ultimately, students construct a policy option rooted in their values and knowledge of the issue.
