Michael Forova Avosa, a 2008 Watson International Scholar of the Environment, is program manager for the Forest Governance & Integrity Program, part of Transparency International (FGI) in Papua New Guinea. FGI is a multi-country program to fight and root out corruption in the forest sector in five countries (China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands). Previously, Michael was country liaison for the Bishop Museum of Hawaii and was the former country program manager for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Papua New Guinea. Mr. Avosa received his diploma in forestry from Bulolo University College, Papua New Guinea. He worked for the Papua New Guinea National Forest Service for twenty years. His area of speciality covers forestry policy, environment and conservation programs, international aid management, Melanesian customary land tenure, and community development. He also served as founding board member of two local not-for-profit NGO Boards: the Forest Certification Services Limited and the Center for Environmental Research & Development Inc.
