Benjamin Tchoffo

Benjamin Tchoffo, a 2007 Watson International Scholar of the Environment, is the executive director of the African Center for Applied Forestry Research and Development (CARFAD), a Cameroonian nongovernmental organization of which he is also a founding member. He is also the current coordinator of Consultative and Action Group (GCA), a network of about 30 Cameroonian environmental NGOs. He earned a forestry and wildlife engineer diploma at the University of Dschang-Cameroon and a professional MSc with the Senghor University in Alexandria, Egypt. In addition, he is an environmental consultant and a visiting lecturer at the University of Dschang-Cameroon's Regional Center Specialized in Agriculture (CRESA-Foret-Bois), where he teaches environmental audits in the Environmental Impact Assessment Program.

As an environmental activist, Tchoffo has carried out many projects aimed at safeguarding the environment. The research activities of these projects were carried out in collaboration with the universities in Cameroon (Dschang: Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences, Yaounde I, and Ngaoundere), the University of Göttingen and the ASA Program in Germany, and Connecticut College. He has also supervised and advised students working with CARFAD staff in research in the field.
