Online Lesson: Darfur: Violence and the Media

These videos can be used to supplement the online lesson plan and readings about the situation in Darfur.

This is a one-day lesson in which students explore events in Sudan using multiple sources, develop media literacy skills, and evaluate the effectiveness of different online resources. Students are challenged to assess the argument over whether the Darfur conflict is a genocide. Students also consider the international response to events in Sudan and assess possible consequences. The videos can help students understand the concept of genocide, the challenges of interpreting the Genocide Convention, and the controversy surrounding the arrest warrant for President Bashir.
