Day 5: Morality and Deterrence

These videos can be used with the Day 5 lesson plan from The Challenge of Nuclear Weapons. Students might find the first video helpful to their understanding of the concept of deterrence, so watching that video at the beginning of class will set the stage for them. The second video can be watched after students have attempted to develop their analogies of deterrence and have assessed the policy implications of their analogies. Students may find it interesting to compare different scholars’ viewpoints on whether deterrence works, and to develop their own opinions as well.
