Lillian Tsay is a PhD candidate at Brown University. She previously received her master’s from the University of Tokyo and her bachelor’s from National Taiwan University. Her research explores the role of sweetness in the making of the Japanese Empire by focusing on the Western-style confectionery industry, including products such as chocolate and caramels. Her other research interests are gender history, history of science, and historical memory.
