The Choices Program offers several curriculum units on revolutions across time and location. These two webinars (August 1 and August 8) will provide a brief overview of each unit to help teachers understand the approach, coverage, and lesson plans provided. We’ll also highlight common skills and themes that are found throughout the units. 

Part I (August 1): the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions

Part II (August 8): Iranian Revolution and Russian Revolution

Your registration covers both sessions. You can attend one or both sessions.

Mimi is the Director of Professional Development for the Choices Program. Prior to joining the Choices Program in 2011, Mimi worked at Clark University where she served as the Director of the Teacher Center for Global Studies supporting K12 social studies teachers throughout Massachusetts for more than 20 years. Mimi holds a Masters in International Development and Social Change from Clark University.

The American Revolution: Experiences of Rebellion

Students consider the perspectives of various stakeholders—colonists, enslaved Africans, and Native peoples—and explore the factors that led to rebellion, war, and the independence of the U.S.

The French Revolution

The Iranian Revolution

Students trace the history of Iran from its early dynasties to the present and explore Iran’s cultural history, its efforts to establish a representative democracy, and the role the great powers played in shaping events in Iran.

The Russian Revolution

The second edition of this unit is a must-have overhaul and replacement for first edition of this popular unit. Students explore the events leading up to Lenin and the Bolsheviks’ assumption of power; the political and economic conditions that led to the fall of the Tsar; and the competing political ideologies in revolutionary-era Russia.
